Sahih al-Bukhari 4784 (Book 65, Hadith 306) #4567
The Importance of Being True to One's Covenant with Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of being true to one's covenant with Allah and how it is equal to the witness of two men.

Narrated Zaid bin Thabit: When we collected the fragmentary manuscripts of the Qur'an into copies, I missed one of the Verses of Surat al-Ahzab which I used to hear Allah's Messenger reading. Finally I did not find it with anybody except Khuza'ima Al-Ansari, whose witness was considered by Allah's Messenger equal to the witness of two men. (And that Verse was:) 'Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of being true to one's covenant with Allah. It was narrated by Zaid bin Thabit, who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He mentions that when they were collecting fragments of the Qur'an into copies, he missed one verse from Surat al-Ahzab which he used to hear Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reading. He could not find it anywhere except from Khuza'ima Al-Ansari whose witness was considered equal to two men by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The verse mentioned in this hadith is “Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah” which emphasizes on being faithful and loyal towards our promises made with Allah and how it is equivalent in value as two witnesses testifying something in court.

This hadith teaches us that we should be honest and sincere in our dealings especially when making a promise or agreement with someone else or even more so when making a promise or agreement with God Almighty Himself as He knows all our intentions and will reward us accordingly for keeping up our end of any bargain we make Him. We should also strive for justice, fairness, truthfulness, loyalty, integrity and trustworthiness in all aspects of life so that we can be counted among those who are true believers according to this verse from Surat al-Ahzab mentioned in this hadith.
