Sahih al-Bukhari 4565 (Book 65, Hadith 87) #4348
The Importance of Paying Zakat

SUMMARY: Wealth should not be hoarded and Zakat must be paid to those who are in need.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "Anyone whom Allah has given wealth but he does not pay its Zakat, then, on the Day of Resurrection, his wealth will be presented to him in the shape of a bald-headed poisonous male snake with two poisonous glands in its mouth and it will encircle itself round his neck and bite him over his cheeks and say, "I am your wealth; I am your treasure". Then the Prophet recited this Divine Verse:-- "And let not those who covetously withhold of that which Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounty". (3:180)

QUICK LESSONS:
Pay your zakat regularly according to Islamic law; Use your resources wisely; Help those less fortunate than yourself; Be generous with your wealth; Be responsible for how you use your money; Show compassion towards others by sharing what you have been blessed with.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of paying zakat, which is a religious obligation for Muslims. Allah has given us wealth and it is our responsibility to use it in a way that benefits others. If we do not pay zakat, then on the Day of Resurrection our wealth will take the form of a poisonous snake that will bite us and remind us that we have failed to fulfill our obligations. This hadith also reminds us that we should not hoard our wealth but instead use it to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

The Quran also mentions this concept when it says “And let not those who covetously withhold of that which Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounty”(3:180). This verse emphasizes the importance of using our resources wisely and helping others with what we have been blessed with. We should remember this when making decisions about how to spend or invest our money so as to ensure that everyone can benefit from it in some way or another.
