Abrogation of Verses in the Quran

SUMMARY: This hadith explains that a verse in the Quran was abrogated by another verse.

Narrated Marwan Al-Asghar: A man from the companions of Allah's Messenger who I think, was Ibn 'Umar said, "The Verse:-- "Whether you show what is in your minds or conceal it".. was abrogated by the Verse following it".
حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ، أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ مَرْوَانَ الأَصْفَرِ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ قَالَ أَحْسِبُهُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ـ ‏{‏إِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ‏}‏ قَالَ نَسَخَتْهَا الآيَةُ الَّتِي بَعْدَهَا‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad, Ibn Umar, said that a certain verse in the Quran was abrogated by another verse. The Arabic word for abrogate is ‘Islah’ which means to replace or substitute something with something else. An ayah is an Arabic term for a verse from the Quran. In this hadith, it is explained that one ayah was replaced with another ayah and this process is known as abrogation. It teaches us to be aware of changes and updates in religious teachings and to always stay up-to-date with our knowledge about Islam so we can practice it correctly.
