Praying Towards the Qibla

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his followers praying towards Jerusalem for sixteen or seventeen months, until Allah ordered them to turn their faces towards the Qibla in Mecca.

Narrated Al-Bara: We prayed along with the Prophet facing Jerusalem for sixteen or seventeen months. Then Allah ordered him to turn his face towards the Qibla (in Mecca):-- "And from whence-so-ever you start forth (for prayers) turn your face in the direction of (the Sacred Mosque of Mecca) Al-Masjid-ul Haram".. (2.149)

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God's commands without question and follow His guidance even if it means changing our habits or routines .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his followers prayed towards Jerusalem for sixteen or seventeen months, until Allah ordered them to turn their faces towards the Qibla in Mecca. The direction of prayer was changed from facing Jerusalem to facing Mecca. This change was made because Allah wanted Muslims to pray in a specific direction, which is known as the Qibla. The importance of this change lies in its symbolism; it shows that Muslims should be united and focused on one goal - worshipping Allah alone. It also serves as a reminder that all Muslims are equal regardless of where they come from or what language they speak; everyone should face the same direction when praying. Additionally, this hadith teaches us that we must always obey God’s commands without question and follow His guidance even if it means changing our habits or routines.
