Sahih al-Bukhari 4423 (Book 64, Hadith 445) #4218
Genuine Excuses and Joining Journeys

SUMMARY: People who are unable to join a journey due to genuine reasons are still considered as part of the journey.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Messenger returned from the Ghazwa of Tabuk, and when he approached Medina, he said, "There are some people in Medina who were with you all the time, you did not travel any portion of the journey nor crossed any valley, but they were with you they (ie the people) said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Even though they were at Medina?" He said, "Yes, because they were stopped by a genuine excuse".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how people who are unable to join a journey due to genuine reasons are still considered as part of the journey. It teaches us that even if someone is not physically present, they can still be included in the group if they have a valid excuse for not being able to attend. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was returning from Ghazwa Tabuk and when he approached Medina, he noticed that some people were not with him on his journey but stayed back in Medina. He said that these people were with him because they had valid excuses for not being able to join him on his travels. This hadith teaches us that we should be understanding and forgiving towards those who cannot make it due to genuine reasons, and include them in our activities regardless of their physical presence or absence.
