Taking the Pledge of Allegiance for Islam and Jihad

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) took the pledge of allegiance from Abu Mabad for Islam and Jihad.

Narrated Mujashi bin Masud: I took Abu Mabad to the Prophet in order that he might give him the pledge of allegiance for migration. The Prophet said, "Migration has gone to its people, but I take the pledge from him (ie Abu Mabad) for Islam and Jihad".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ مُجَاشِعِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، انْطَلَقْتُ بِأَبِي مَعْبَدٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ لِيُبَايِعَهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ، قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَضَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ لأَهْلِهَا، أُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَالْجِهَادِ." فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا مَعْبَدٍ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ صَدَقَ مُجَاشِعٌ‏.‏ وَقَالَ خَالِدٌ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ مُجَاشِعٍ أَنَّهُ جَاءَ بِأَخِيهِ مُجَالِدٍ‏.‏

The pledge was taken by Abu Mabad as an act of loyalty towards Allah and His Messenger. It is also a reminder that we should strive hard in our faith and be willing to sacrifice our lives if necessary in order to protect it. We should also be willing to help others who are struggling with their faith or facing persecution due to their beliefs. Lastly, this hadith teaches us that we must always remain loyal towards Allah and His Messenger no matter what situation we find ourselves in.
