The Power of Positive Affirmation

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a man who fell unconscious and his sister was calling him by his good qualities. When he regained consciousness, he told her that every time she said something, he was asked if it was true.

Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir: 'Abdullah bin Rawaha fell down unconscious and his sister 'Amra started crying and was saying loudly, "O Jabala! Oh so-and-so! Oh so-and-so! and went on calling him by his (good ) qualities one by one). When he came to his senses, he said (to his sister), "When-ever you said something, I was asked, 'Are you really so (ie as she says)?"

QUICK LESSONS:
Speak positively about yourself or others around you

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the power of positive affirmation. It tells us that when we speak positively about someone, they will be asked to live up to those words. An-Nu'man bin Bashir narrated this story of 'Abdullah bin Rawaha and his sister 'Amra. When Abdullah fell unconscious, Amra started crying and calling out all the good qualities her brother possessed one by one. When Abdullah regained consciousness, he told her that every time she said something positive about him, he was asked if it was true or not. This teaches us that when we speak positively about someone or ourselves, we are held accountable for our words and must strive to live up to them in order for them to be true. We should always strive to speak positively as it can have a great impact on our lives and the lives of others around us.
