Supplicating for Strength in the Face of Enemies

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was emphasizing the importance of Allah's guidance and supplicating for calmness and strength in the face of enemies.

Narrated Al-Bara: The Prophet was carrying earth on the day of Al-Khandaq till his 'Abdomen was fully covered with dust, and he was saying, "By Allah, without Allah we would not have been guided, neither would we have given in charity, nor would we have prayed. So (O Allah), please send Sakina (ie calmness) upon us, and make our feet firm if we meet the enemy as the enemy have rebelled against us, and if they intended affliction, (ie want to frighten us and fight against us then we would not flee but withstand them)". The Prophet used to raise his voice saying, "Abaina! Abaina! (ie would not, we would not).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of relying on Allah and His guidance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was carrying earth on the day of Al-Khandaq when he made a supplication to Allah asking for calmness and strength if they were to meet their enemies who had rebelled against them. He also reminded himself and others that without Allah's guidance they would not have been able to do good deeds such as giving charity or praying. This hadith teaches us that we should always rely on Allah no matter what situation we are in because He is our ultimate source of help and strength.
