Contentment of Soul & Comfort of Heart

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that piety is that which content the soul and comforts the heart, and sin is that which causes doubts and perturbs the heart.

Wabisah bin Ma'bad (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I went to Messenger of Allah and he asked me, "Have you come to inquire about piety?" I replied in the affirmative. Then he said, "Ask your heart regarding it. Piety is that which contents the soul and comforts the heart, and sin is that which causes doubts and perturbs the heart, even if people pronounce it lawful and give you verdicts on such matters again and again". Ahmad and Ad- Darmi.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us about piety, which is a virtue or righteousness. He said that it is something that content the soul and comforts the heart. On the other hand, he said sin causes doubts and perturbs the heart even if people pronounce it lawful or give verdicts on such matters again and again. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our actions as they can have an effect on our hearts in terms of peace or turmoil. We should strive to do what pleases Allah SWT so we can find true contentment in our souls as well as comfort in our hearts.
