Qualities of the People of Jannah and Hell

SUMMARY: This hadith speaks of the qualities of those who will enter Jannah and those who will enter Hell.

Harithah bin Wahb (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard Messenger of Allah saying, "Shall I not inform you about the people of Jannah? It is every person who is, modest and humble (before Allah), a person who is accounted weak and is looked down upon but if he adjures Allah, Allah will certainly give him what he desires. Now shall I not inform you about the inmates of Hell? It is every violent, impertinent and proud man". Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the qualities that are necessary to be accepted into Paradise and those that lead to being condemned to hellfire. The people of Paradise are described as being modest and humble before Allah; they may be looked down upon by others but if they supplicate Allah He will grant them their desires. On the other hand those destined for hellfire are described as violent, impertinent and proud individuals. These qualities demonstrate how important it is for us to have good character in order to gain Allah's pleasure in this life and the hereafter. We should strive to be humble before Allah so that we can attain His mercy; we should also avoid any kind of violence or pride which would lead us away from His mercy.
