The Rewards of Listening to Khutbah During Jumu'ah Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith emphasizes the importance of performing wudu properly and attentively listening to the khutbah during Jumu'ah prayer in order to be forgiven for sins committed in the past 10 days.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah said, "He who performs his Wudu' perfectly and comes to Jumu'ah prayer and listens (to the Khutbah) silently, the sins which he has committed since the previous Friday plus three more days (ie, 10 days) will be forgiven for him. One who distracts himself with pebbles during the Khutbah will not get the (Jumu'ah) reward". Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of performing wudūʾ, or ritual ablution, before attending jummʿa prayer and listening attentively to the khutba. It is said that if one does this, then any sins they have committed since their last jummʿa prayer will be forgiven. Additionally, it warns against distracting oneself with pebbles during the khutba as this will prevent one from receiving a reward for attending jummʿa prayer. This hadith encourages Muslims to take advantage of this opportunity by engaging in proper worship and seeking forgiveness from Allah through repentance and good deeds.
