The Battle of Badr and Addressing Dead Pagans

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Battle of Badr and how Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) addressed the dead pagans while their corpses were being thrown into a well.

Narrated Ibn Shihab: These were the battles of Allah's Messenger (which he fought), and while mentioning (the Badr battle) he said, "While the corpses of the pagans were being thrown into the well, Allah's Messenger said (to them), 'Have you found what your Lord promised true?" 'Abdullah said, "Some of the Prophet's companions said, "O Allah's Messenger ! You are addressing dead people'. Allah's Messenger replied, 'You do not hear what I am saying, better than they'. The total number of Muslim fighters from Quraish who fought in the battle of Badr and were given their share of the booty, were 81 men". Az-Zubair said, "When their shares were distributed, their number was 101 men. But Allah knows it better".

QUICK LESSONS:
Trusting in Allah’s promise, Striving for success despite all odds, Never underestimating one’s own capabilities .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the battle of Badr which was fought between Muslims and pagans. It was a great victory for Muslims as they were outnumbered by their enemies. During this battle, Allah's Messenger addressed the dead pagans while their corpses were being thrown into a well. He asked them if they found what their Lord promised to be true. Some companions thought it was strange that he would address dead people but he replied that they could not hear better than them what he said. The total number of Muslim fighters from Quraish who fought in this battle was 81 men but when their shares were distributed, there were 101 men in total. This hadith teaches us that we should always trust in Allah's promise no matter how difficult or impossible it may seem at first because He will always make it come true eventually if we have faith in Him and strive to do our best with His help. We should also remember to never underestimate our own capabilities because with Allah's help, anything is possible even when all odds are against us!
