Accountability and Good Deeds

SUMMARY: A wise person is one who holds themselves accountable and does good deeds for their benefit in the afterlife, while a foolish person follows their desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of their vain desires.

Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet said, "A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires". At-Tirmidhi, who categorized it as Hadith Hasan.

QUICK LESSONS:
Call yourself to account; do noble deeds; think carefully about your decisions; restrain yourself from evil deeds; seek what's best for you both now & later on .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of accountability and doing good deeds. It teaches us that a wise person is one who holds themselves accountable for their actions and does good deeds that will benefit them in the afterlife. On the other hand, a foolish person follows their desires without considering how it will affect them in the future. They seek from Allah only what they want right now instead of thinking about what will be best for them later on. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encourages us to think carefully about our decisions so that we can make sure we are doing what is best for ourselves both now and in the hereafter.
