The Story of the Spear from Badr

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the story of a spear that was used in the battle of Badr and how it passed through different people until it ended up with 'Ali's offspring.

Narrated 'Urwa: Az-Zubair said, "I met Ubaida bin Sa'id bin Al-As on the day (of the battle) of Badr and he was covered with armor; so much that only his eyes were visible. He was surnamed Abu Dhat-al-Karish. He said (proudly), 'I am Abu-al-Karish'. I attacked him with the spear and pierced his eye and he died. I put my foot over his body to pull (that spear) out, but even then I had to use a great force to take it out as its both ends were bent"'.Urwa said, "Later on Allah's Messenger asked Az-Zubair for the spear and he gave it to him. When Allah's Messenger died, Az-Zubair took it back. After that Abu Bakr demanded it and he gave it to him, and when Abu Bakr died, Az-Zubair took it back'.Umar then demanded it from him and he gave it to him. When 'Umar died, Az-Zubair took it back, and then 'Uthman demanded it from him and he gave it to him. When 'Uthman was martyred, the spear remained with 'Ali's offspring. Then 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair demanded it back, and it remained with him till he was martyred.

Be loyal towards your leaders even after their death .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us a story about a spear that was used in the battle of Badr by Ubaida bin Sa'id bin Al-As. Az Zubair attacked him with this spear and pierced his eye which caused him to die. After this Allah’s Messenger ﷺ asked for this spear from Az Zubair and he gave it to him. After Allah’s Messenger ﷺ died, Abu Bakr demanded it from Az Zubair who then gave it to him. When Abu Bakr died Umar demanded it from Az Zubair who then gave it to him as well. When Umar died Uthman demanded the spear from Az Zubair who then gave it to him too. When Uthman was martyred Ali’s offspring got hold of the spear and after that Abdullah bin az zubair demanded for its return but he was martyred before he could get his hands on the weapon again .This hadith teaches us about loyalty towards our leaders even after their death as well as passing down important items or weapons through generations so they can be remembered forever .
