Riyad as-Salihin 1698 (Book 17, Hadith 188) #38187
The Purpose of Mosques

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that mosques are meant for prayer, remembrance of Allah, and acquiring knowledge, not for announcing the loss of one's possessions.

Buraidah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: A man announced (the loss of his camel) in the mosque, uttering these words: "Has any one seen my red camel?" Upon this the Messenger of Allah said, "May it not be restored to you! The mosques are built for what they are meant to be (ie, prayer, remembrance of Allah, acquiring knowledge, etc)". Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Use mosques for prayer, remembrance of Allah and acquiring knowledge; Respect religious spaces; Use time wisely for spiritual pursuits such as prayer and learning about Islam; Engage in activities related directly to worshipping God in a mosque .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that mosques are places to remember Allah and to learn about His teachings. They are not places to announce the loss of one's possessions or anything else unrelated to worshiping God. This hadith reminds us that we should use our time in the mosque wisely by engaging in activities such as prayer, reciting Quran, and learning more about Islam. We should also respect the sanctity of mosques by refraining from any activities that do not relate directly to worshipping God.
