Sahih al-Bukhari 3949 (Book 64, Hadith 1) #3776
The Prophet's Expeditions

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) went on 19 expeditions, and Zaid bin Al-Arqam joined him in 17 of them. The first expedition was either Al-'Ashira or Al- 'Ashiru.

Narrated Abu 'Is-haq: Once, while I was sitting beside Zaid bin Al-Arqam, he was asked, "How many Ghazwat did the Prophet undertake?" Zaid replied, "Nineteen". They said, "In how many Ghazwat did you join him?" He replied, "Seventeen". I asked, "Which of these was the first?" He replied, "Al-'Ashira or Al- 'Ashiru".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about the expeditions that the Prophet Muhammad went on during his lifetime. He went on a total of 19 expeditions, and his companion Zaid bin Al-Arqam joined him in 17 of them. We also learn that the first expedition was either called "Al-'Ashira" or "Al-'Ashiru". These expeditions were important for spreading Islam to different parts of Arabia, as well as defending Muslims from their enemies. It is a reminder to us that we should always be prepared to defend our faith when necessary, just like the Prophet did during his lifetime.
