The Prophet's Instructions on Adhan

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed Bilal and Ibn Umm Maktum to give the call for prayer, with a gap between them that was not more than the time it took for one to climb down and the other to climb up.

Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah had two Mu'adhdhin: Bilal and Ibn Umm Maktum (May Allah be pleased with them). The Messenger of Allah said, "Bilal proclaims Adhan call to Salat (prayer) at fag end of night, so eat and drink till Ibn Umm Maktum pronounces Adhan". Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) added: And the gap between their Adhan was not more than the time spent in one's getting down and the other's climbing (the minaret). Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad instructed two of his companions, Bilal and Ibn Umm Maktum, to give the call for prayer. He told them that they should have a gap between their calls that was not more than enough time for one person to climb down from a minaret while another climbed up. This hadith teaches us about how important it is in Islam to follow instructions given by our religious leaders. It also shows us how important it is in Islam to be punctual when performing religious duties such as giving the call for prayer. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us about being considerate towards others; by having a gap between their calls, both men were able to perform their duties without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
