Ten Demands of Pure Nature

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the ten demands of pure nature which are related to personal hygiene and cleanliness.

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "There are ten demands of pure nature: trimming the moustache, letting the beard grow, using Miswak (tooth-stick), snuffing up water into the nose (in ablution), paring the nails, washing the bases of the finger joints; plucking the underarm hair, removing of the pubic hair and removing impurities with water from the affected part after a call of nature". The subnarrator said: I forgot the tenth but it might possibly be the rinsing of the mouth (in ablution). Muslim.
وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت‏:‏ قال رسول الله ‏:‏ ‏"‏عشر من الفطرة‏:‏ قص الشارب، وإعفاء اللحية، والسواك، واستنشاق الماء، وقص الأظفار، وغسل البراجم، ونتف الإبط، وحلق العانة، وانتقاص الماء‏"‏ ‏(‏‏(‏قال الراوي‏:‏ ونسيت العاشرة إلا أن تكون المضمضة، قال‏:‏ وكيع- وهو أحد رواته-‏)‏‏)‏ ‏.‏ (25) ‏(‏‏(‏رواه مسلم‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏‏(‏‏(‏

This hadith is narrated by Aishah may Allah be pleased with her and it talks about ten demands of pure nature that are related to personal hygiene and cleanliness. These include trimming one's moustache, letting one's beard grow, using a miswak for brushing teeth, snuffing up water into one's nose during ablution or wudu', paring one's nails, washing the bases of finger joints, plucking underarm hair, removing pubic hair as well as removing impurities with water from affected parts after a call of nature. The tenth demand is rinsing one's mouth during wudu'. These practices are essential for maintaining good health and hygiene as well as being pleasing to Allah SWT. It is important for children to learn these practices at an early age so that they can develop healthy habits throughout their lives.
