Riyad as-Salihin 1069 (Book 8, Hadith 79) #37558
The Importance of Congregational Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith emphasizes the importance of attending congregational prayer in the mosque and warns against abandoning the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: He who likes to meet Allah tomorrow (ie, on the Day of Requital) as a Muslim, should take care and observe the Salat when the Adhan is announced for them. Allah has expounded to your Prophet the ways of right guidance, and these (the prayers) are part of the right guidance. If you have to perform Salat in your houses, as this man who stays away (from the mosque) and performs Salat in his house, you will abandon the Sunnah (practice) of your Prophet , and the departure from the Sunnah of your Prophet will lead you astray. I have seen the time when no one stayed behind except a well-known hypocrite. I also saw that a man was brought swaying (on account of weakness) between two men till he was set up in a row (in the mosque). Muslim.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take care and observe your prayers when you hear the call for it; Attend congregational prayer in mosques; Follow sunnahs set by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of attending congregational prayer in a mosque. It was narrated by Ibn Mas'ud who was one of Prophet Muhammad's companions. He reported that if someone wants to meet Allah as a Muslim on Judgement Day, they should take care and observe their prayers when they hear the call to prayer. The Prophet has taught us ways for guidance and these prayers are part of that guidance. If we do not attend congregational prayers in mosques then we will be abandoning the practice or sunnah set by our beloved Prophet which will lead us astray from our path towards righteousness. Ibn Mas'ud also mentioned that he saw people being brought into mosques while swaying due to weakness just so they could perform their prayers with others in congregation.
