The Duty of Seeking Knowledge

SUMMARY: Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim, and it is wrong to impart knowledge to those who do not deserve it.

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah said: "Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim, and he who imparts knowledge to those who do not deserve it, is like one who puts a necklace of jewels, pearls and gold around the neck of swines".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek Knowledge

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge for all Muslims. It is a duty upon every Muslim to seek knowledge in order to better understand their faith and the world around them. Additionally, this hadith warns against imparting knowledge to those who do not deserve it. It likens this action to putting a necklace of jewels, pearls and gold around the neck of swines - an act that would be considered wasteful as swines would not appreciate or benefit from such an expensive item. This hadith teaches us that we should only share our knowledge with those who are deserving and will make use of it in a beneficial way.
