Giving and Asking

SUMMARY: The upper hand is the one which gives and the lower hand is the one which asks.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said from the Mimbar when mentioning sadaqa and refraining from asking, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand is the one which expends, and the lower one is the one which asks".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously without expecting anything back

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar, speaks of giving and asking. It emphasizes that giving is better than asking. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said from the Mimbar that “the upper hand is better than the lower hand” meaning that it is more virtuous to give than to ask for something in return. This hadith encourages us to be generous with our wealth and resources, as well as being humble when we need help from others. It teaches us to be selfless in our actions and not expect anything in return for our good deeds. We should strive to give without expecting anything back so that we can reap rewards from Allah SWT on Judgment Day.
