Patches of Humility

SUMMARY: Umar ibn al-Khattab was seen wearing three patches sewn between his shoulders.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talha said, "Anas ibn Malik said, 'I saw Umar ibn al-Khattab when he was the amir of Madina. Three patches were sewn between his shoulders, one patched over the other'. ''

QUICK LESSONS:
Be humble no matter your status in life; Strive to be content with what you have; Remember that we are all equal before Allah SWT .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the humility of Umar Ibn Al Khattab. He was the amir or leader of Madina and he wore three patches sewn between his shoulders as a sign of humility. This shows that even though he was in a position of power and authority, he still showed humility by not dressing extravagantly or showing off his wealth. It teaches us to be humble no matter what our status is in life and to remember that we are all equal before Allah SWT. We should also strive to be content with what we have and not seek more than what we need.
