Punishment for Adultery

SUMMARY: A woman who committed adultery was punished by stoning after she gave birth and weaned the baby.

Malik related to me from Yaqub ibn Zayd ibn Talha from his father Zayd ibn Talha that Abdullah ibn Abi Mulayka informed him that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and informed him that she had committed adultery and was pregnant. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to her, "Go away until you give birth". When she had given birth, she came to him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to her, "Go away until you have suckled and weaned the baby". When she had weaned the baby, she came to him. He said, "Go and entrust the baby to someone". She entrusted the baby to someone and then came to him. He gave the order and she was stoned.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Allah's commands even if they are harsh or unpopular because they are there for our own good and protection from harm or injustice.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who committed adultery and was brought to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ told her to go away until she had given birth and then come back. After she gave birth, he told her to go away until she had weaned the baby and then come back. When she returned after weaning the baby, he ordered that she be stoned as punishment for her crime of adultery. This hadith teaches us that Allah has set laws in place which must be followed in order for justice to prevail in society. It also teaches us that no matter how difficult it may seem at times, it is important to follow these laws even if they are harsh or unpopular because they are there for our own good and protection from harm or injustice.
