Honoring Loved Ones Through Good Deeds

SUMMARY: A'isha, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, freed many slaves in honor of her brother Abd ar-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr after his death.

Malik related to me that Yahya ibn Said said, ''Abd ar-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr died in his sleep, and A'isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, set free many slaves for him". Malik said, "This is what I like best of what I have heard on the subject".

QUICK LESSONS:

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of honoring loved ones even after their death. A'isha, the wife of Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, set free many slaves in honor of her brother Abd ar-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr after his death. This act was praised by Malik as being one of the best ways to honor a deceased loved one. It is important to remember that honoring those who have passed away can take on many forms such as charity work or acts that benefit others in their name. It is also important to remember that these acts should be done out of love and respect for our loved ones rather than out of obligation or guilt.
