Nursing for Visitation

SUMMARY: A woman named Hafsa sent her sister's son to be nursed by her so that he could visit her.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Safiyya bint Abi Ubayd told him that Hafsa, umm al-muminin, sent Asim ibn Abdullah ibn Sad to her sister Fatima bint Umar ibn al-Khattab for her to suckle him ten times so that he could come in to see her. She did it, so he used to come in to see her.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of family ties and sisterhood. It tells us that even though a person may not be related to you by blood, they can still be considered family if they are close enough. In this case, Hafsa sent her nephew Asim to be nursed by her sister Fatima so that he could come in and visit her. This shows us the importance of maintaining strong relationships with our siblings and other relatives even if we are not related by blood. It also teaches us the value of hospitality as Fatima was willing to nurse Asim in order for him to come in and visit with them. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of caring for those who are close to us regardless of their relation or status in society as Asim was not related directly but still welcomed into their home with open arms.
