Keeping Vows in Marriage

SUMMARY: A man who has vowed to divorce his wife before marrying her must fulfill his vow and divorce her when he marries her.

Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that Umar ibn al-Khattab, Abdullah ibn Umar, Abdullah ibn Masud, Salim ibn Abdullah, al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, Ibn Shihab, and Sulayman ibn Yasar all said, "If a man has vowed to divorce his wife before marrying her and then he breaks his vow, divorce is obligatory for him when he marries her".

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep your promises no matter what the situation is . Think carefully before making decisions as they can have serious consequences on your lives if not taken seriously .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of keeping one's vows in marriage. It is narrated by Yahya from Malik that Umar Ibn Al-Khattab and other companions of the Prophet Muhammad have said that if a man has made a vow to divorce his wife before marrying her then he must fulfill this vow when they marry. This hadith teaches us that we should be honest with our words and keep our promises no matter what the situation is. We should not make any promises or vows which we cannot keep as it will lead to dishonesty and mistrust between couples in marriage. Furthermore, it also teaches us that we should think carefully before making any decisions as they can have serious consequences on our lives if not taken seriously.
