Sahih al-Bukhari 3789 (Book 63, Hadith 14) #3617
Praising the Families of Ansar

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) praised the families of Banu An-Najjar, Banu 'Abdul Ash-hal, Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj and Banu Sa'ida for their good qualities.

Narrated Abu Usaid: The Prophet said, "The best of the Ansar's families (homes) are those of Banu An-Najjar and then (those of) Banu 'Abdul Ash-hal, then (those of) Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj and then (those of) Banu Sa'ida; nevertheless, there is good in all the families (houses) of the Ansar". On this, Sa'd (bin Ubada) said, "I see that the Prophet has preferred some people to us". Somebody said (to him), "No, but he has given you superiority to many". (Hadith similar to above with a different chain)

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous in your praise and recognize people's efforts regardless of who they are or where they come from; Strive to have good qualities yourself so that you can be worthy of such praise from others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ praising four families from among the Ansar for their good qualities. The Prophet ﷺ was known to be very generous in his praise and this hadith is a testament to that. He praised these four families for their good qualities without any discrimination or preference towards one family over another. This teaches us that we should always be generous in our praise and recognize people’s efforts regardless of who they are or where they come from. We should also strive to have good qualities ourselves so that we can be worthy of such praise from others.
