The Reward of Jihad

SUMMARY: Allah guarantees either the Garden or a safe return to his home with whatever reward or booty for those who do jihad in His way.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Allah guarantees either the Garden or a safe return to his home with whatever he has obtained of reward or booty, for the one who does jihad in His way, if it is solely jihad and trust in his promise that brings him out of his house".
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ ‏ "‏ تَكَفَّلَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ جَاهَدَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ - لاَ يُخْرِجُهُ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ إِلاَّ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِهِ وَتَصْدِيقُ كَلِمَاتِهِ - أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ أَوْ يَرُدَّهُ إِلَى مَسْكَنِهِ الَّذِي خَرَجَ مِنْهُ مَعَ مَا نَالَ مِنْ أَجْرٍ أَوْ غَنِيمَةٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the rewards of doing jihad in Allah's way. Jihad is an Arabic word which means struggle and it can be physical or spiritual. In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is telling us that if we do jihad solely for Allah's sake then He will guarantee us either Jannah or a safe return to our homes with whatever reward or booty we have obtained from it. This means that even if we don't get any material gain from our struggle but still put effort into it for Allah's sake then He will reward us greatly in this life and the hereafter. We should always remember that no matter what happens in life, if we trust in God's promise and strive hard for His cause then He will never let us down.
