Menstruation and Journey Delays

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) allowing a menstruating woman to continue on a journey without delay.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd ar-Rahman ibn al-Qasim from his father from A'isha umm al-muminin that Safiyya bint Huyy began menstruating and so she mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he asked, "Will she delay us?" and he was told, "She has already done the tawaf al-ifada," and he said, "Then she will not delay us".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect women's rights, Allow women equal opportunities regardless of their menstrual cycle .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) allowing a woman who was menstruating to continue on her journey without any delay. The Prophet asked if she would delay them and was told that she had already done the tawaf al-ifada, which is when pilgrims complete their pilgrimage by circling around the Kaaba seven times. He then said that she would not delay them and allowed her to continue on her journey with them. This hadith teaches us that even though menstruation can be seen as an inconvenience or something shameful in some cultures, it should not be seen as such in Islam because it is natural and part of life for women. It also teaches us that we should respect women's rights and allow them to participate in activities like travelling despite their menstrual cycle if they wish to do so.
