Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that he saw Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr go into ihram for umra at at-Tanim. He said, "Then I saw him hasten around the House for three circuits".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the rituals of performing an umra. It tells us that when a person goes into ihram for umra at at-Tanim they should then hasten around the House for three circuits. Ihram is a sacred state which one enters in order to perform certain religious rites such as Hajj or Umrah. It involves wearing two pieces of white cloth and abstaining from certain activities such as cutting hair or nails and wearing perfume or scented oils. At-Tanim is a place near Makkah where pilgrims enter into their state of ihram before beginning their journey towards Makkah to perform Hajj or Umrah rituals. The ‘House’ mentioned in this hadith refers to the Kaaba which is located in Makkah and it is considered by Muslims to be the holiest site on earth. When performing an umra ritual, Muslims are required to make seven rounds around the Kaaba while reciting prayers known as tawaf. This hadith teaches us that when entering into a state of ihram one should make haste during these seven rounds so that they can complete them quickly and efficiently without wasting time unnecessarily on other activities such as shopping or sightseeing during this period of time dedicated solely for worshiping Allah SWT .
