Hunting Game in the Haram

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to eat any game that has been hunted in the Haram, or has had a dog set after it in the Haram and then been killed outside the Haram.

Malik said, "It is not halal to eat any game that has been hunted in the Haram, or has had a dog set after it in the Haram and then been killed outside the Haram. Anyone that does that has to pay a forfeit for what has been hunted. However, some one that sets his dog after game outside the Haram and then follows it until it is hunted down in the Haram does not have to pay any forfeit, unless he set the dog after the game near to the Haram. The game should not be eaten, however. If he set the dog loose near the Haram then he has to pay a forfeit for the game".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect sacred places, Refrain from hunting animals within them.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is not permissible to hunt or kill any game within the boundaries of a place known as 'Haram'. If someone does so, they must pay a forfeit for what they have hunted. However, if someone sets their dog after game outside of the boundaries of 'Haram' and follows it until it is hunted down inside 'Haram', then they do not need to pay a forfeit unless they set their dog near to 'Haram'. The game should also not be eaten. This hadith teaches us that we should respect places which are considered sacred and refrain from hunting animals within them.
