The Equivalence of Umrah and Hajj

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised a woman to perform Umrah in Ramadan as it is equivalent to performing Hajj.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Sumayyah, the mawla of Abu Bakr ibn Abd ar-Rahman, heard Abu Bakribn Abd ar-Rahman say, "A woman came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, 'I had arranged to do hajj, but I was prevented,' and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Do umra in Ramadan, for doing umra in it is like doing hajj'. "

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform alternative acts of worship such as umra when unable fulfill religious obligations due circumstances beyond one's control .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the equivalence of performing Umrah during Ramadan and performing Hajj. According to this hadith narrated by Yahya from Malik that Sumayyah heard Abu Bakribn Abd ar-Rahman say that a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asking if she could do hajj but was prevented from doing so. The Prophet Muhammad then advised her to do umra in Ramadan instead as it is equivalent to doing hajj. This hadith teaches us that even though we may not be able to fulfill certain obligations due to circumstances beyond our control, there are still other ways for us to gain rewards and blessings from Allah SWT through alternative acts of worship such as umra during Ramadan which has been made equal in reward with hajj by Allah SWT himself.
