The Preference of Doing Umrah Before Hajj

SUMMARY: Abdullah ibn Umar would rather do Umrah before Hajj and sacrifice an animal than do Umrah after Hajj in the month of Dhu'l-Hijja.

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Sadaqa ibn Yasar, that Abdullah ibn Umar said, "By Allah, I would rather do umra before hajj and sacrifice an animal than do umra after hajj in the month of Dhu'l-Hijja".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the preference of doing Umrah before Hajj in the month of Dhu’l Hijja. Abdullah Ibn Umar was a companion and close relative to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who said that he would rather do Umrah before Hajj and sacrifice an animal than do it after Hajj in the month of Dhu’l Hijja. This shows us how important it is to prioritize our religious obligations according to their importance as prescribed by Allah SWT and His Messenger ﷺ. It also teaches us that we should strive for excellence when performing our religious duties, even if they are not obligatory upon us such as sacrificing an animal during this time period. We should also be mindful that we are accountable for all our actions so we must strive to make them pleasing to Allah SWT by following His commands and teachings as closely as possible.
