QUICK LESSONS:
Shorten your prayers while travelling if you are going on a long journey .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer and how it should be done even when travelling. It is narrated by Yahya from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah that Abdullah ibn Umar used to shorten the prayer when he travelled for a whole day. This means that he would only perform two rakats instead of four during his travels. This was done in order to make it easier for him while travelling and not tire himself out too much. The Prophet Muhammad also encouraged people to do this if they were travelling for more than three days or more as it was seen as an act of mercy towards oneself and one's body. It is important to note that this does not mean that one can neglect their prayers altogether but rather just shorten them in order to make them easier on oneself while still fulfilling their obligation towards Allah SWT.
