Sahih al-Bukhari 3697 (Book 62, Hadith 47) #3530
Ranking of the Companions of the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions considered Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman to be superior in rank.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: During the lifetime of the Prophet we considered Abu Bakr as peerless and then 'Umar and then 'Uthman (coming next to him in superiority) and then we used not to differentiate between the companions of the Prophet.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect each other's opinions and beliefs regardless of differences in rank or status; do not differentiate between any companion's contributions or roles within Islam; remember those who have come before us with respect and admiration for their efforts towards spreading Islam throughout Arabia during this time period.

EXPLANATIONS:
During the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his companions held a high regard for three of their peers; Abu Bakr As-Siddiq ﷺ, Umar ibn Al-Khattab ﷺ and Uthman ibn Affan ﷺ. They believed that these three were superior in rank to all other companions. This hadith highlights how highly respected these three individuals were among their peers and how they should be remembered by Muslims today. It also serves as a reminder that we should not differentiate between any of the companions as they all played an important role in spreading Islam throughout Arabia during this time period.
