Sahih al-Bukhari 3691 (Book 62, Hadith 41) #3524
The Symbolism of Religion

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) interpreted a dream he had about people wearing shirts of different lengths as a symbol for religion.

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: I heard Allah's Messenger saying, "While I was sleeping, the people were presented to me (in a dream). They were wearing shirts, some of which were merely covering their (chests). and some were a bit longer'.Umar was presented before me and his shirt was so long that he was dragging it". They asked, "How have you interpreted it, O Allah's Messenger ?" He said, "Religion".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect other's beliefs, Strive for deeper understanding in your own faith journey .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have interpreted a dream he had about people wearing shirts of different lengths. He said that the dream was symbolic of religion. This suggests that there are many different types and levels of religious practice and belief in the world. Some may be more devoted than others or have more knowledge than others but all are valid forms of faith and worship. It also implies that one should not judge another's level or type of faith as it is ultimately between them and God alone. This hadith teaches us to respect each other's beliefs even if they differ from our own and to strive for deeper understanding in our own faith journey rather than judging others'.
