Intimacy During Menstruation

SUMMARY: A'isha advises that a man may fondle his wife while she is menstruating, as long as she wraps her waist-wrapper around her lower part.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Umar sent a question to A'isha asking her, "May a man fondle his wife when she is menstruating?" She replied, "Let her wrap her waist-wrapper around her lower part and then he may fondle her if he wishes".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the issue of intimacy between a husband and wife during menstruation. A’isha advises that a man may fondle his wife while she is menstruating, as long as she wraps her waist-wrapper around her lower part. This hadith teaches us that even though there are certain restrictions on physical contact during this time due to religious reasons, it does not mean that couples should completely avoid intimacy with each other. Instead they can still express their love for each other in ways which are permissible according to Islamic teachings.
