Glorifying Allah Before Going To Bed

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) taught Ali and Fatimah a better way to seek Allah's blessings than asking for a servant, which is to glorify, praise and magnify Allah 33 times each before going to bed.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: l said to Fatimah: Why don't you go to the Prophet ﷺ and ask him for a servant, for grinding corn and work have exhausted you, She said: Come with me. So l went with her and we asked him, and the Prophet ﷺ said: "Shall I not tell you of something that is better for you than that? When you go to your bed, glorify Allah thirty-three times, praise Him thirty-three times and magnify Him thirty-four times. That is one hundred on the lips and one thousand in the Balance"'.Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: I never omitted that after I heard it from the Prophet ﷺ. A man said: Not even on the night of Siffin? He said: Not even on the night of Siffin.
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، وَحُسَيْنٌ، وَأَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ هُبَيْرَةَ بْنِ يَرِيمَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِفَاطِمَةَ لَوْ أَتَيْتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلْتِيهِ خَادِمًا فَقَدْ أَجْهَدَكِ الطَّحْنُ وَالْعَمَلُ قَالَ حُسَيْنٌ إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَهَدَكِ الطَّحْنُ وَالْعَمَلُ وَكَذَلِكَ قَالَ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ قَالَتْ فَانْطَلِقْ مَعِي قَالَ فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهَا فَسَأَلْنَاهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَلَا أَدُلُّكُمَا عَلَى مَا هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمَا مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِذَا أَوَيْتُمَا إِلَى فِرَاشِكُمَا فَسَبِّحَا اللَّهَ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ وَاحْمَدَاهُ ثَلَاثًا وَثَلَاثِينَ وَكَبِّرَاهُ أَرْبَعًا وَثَلَاثِينَ فَتِلْكَ مِائَةٌ عَلَى اللِّسَانِ وَأَلْفٌ فِي الْمِيزَانِ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مَا تَرَكْتُهَا بَعْدَمَا سَمِعْتُهَا مِنْ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ وَلَا لَيْلَةَ صِفِّينَ قَالَ وَلَا لَيْلَةَ صِفِّينَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of glorifying, praising and magnifying Allah before going to bed. It was narrated by 'Ali ibn Abi Talib that he asked the Prophet Muhammad why Fatimah should not ask for a servant as grinding corn and work have exhausted her. The Prophet replied that it would be better if they both glorified, praised and magnified Allah 33 times each before going to bed instead of asking for a servant. This hadith teaches us the importance of dedicating time in our day-to-day lives for worshipping God through prayer or reciting His praises. It also shows us how we can seek blessings from Him without having to ask anyone else or anything else in return. Furthermore, it encourages us to make this part of our daily routine so that we can reap its benefits on an ongoing basis.
