Sahih al-Bukhari 3648 (Book 61, Hadith 151) #3483
Memorizing Through Visualization

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught Abu Huraira a method to remember things by scooping them with his hands and wrapping them in a sheet.

Narrated Abu Huraira: I said, "O Allah's Messenger ! I hear many narrations from you but I forget them". He said, "Spread your covering sheet". I spread my sheet and he moved both his hands as if scooping something and emptied them in the sheet and said, "Wrap it". I wrapped it round my body, and since then I have never forgotten.

QUICK LESSONS:
Use visualization techniques when trying to learn something new; engage with learning material; use mental images or pictures when trying to remember something; wrap yourself up with knowledge like you would wrap yourself up with a sheet .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of memorizing and how to do it effectively. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught Abu Huraira a technique for remembering things that he heard. He asked him to spread out his covering sheet and then moved both of his hands as if scooping something from the air into the sheet. He then told him to wrap it around himself so that he would never forget what he had heard. This technique is known as visualization, which involves using mental images or pictures in order to remember something more easily. It is an effective way of learning because it helps us create connections between different ideas or concepts in our minds, making them easier to recall later on. By visualizing what we are trying to learn, we can also make it more interesting and engaging for ourselves which makes us more likely to remember it better in the long run.
