Musnad Ahmad 990 (Book 5, Hadith 414) #34640
Knowing the Time of Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) corrected 'Ali's assumption that it was Fajr prayer time when it was actually Asr prayer time.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: We thought that it was Fajr, but the Messenger of Allah said: 'It is Asr prayer" - meaning the middle prayer.

Be mindful of your prayers and make sure you are praying at the right times

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of knowing the times for prayers. It is narrated by 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, who said that he and his companions thought it was Fajr prayer time, but the Prophet Muhammad corrected them and said that it was actually Asr prayer time. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our prayers and to make sure we are praying at the right times. We should also be humble enough to accept correction from others if we are wrong in our assumptions or beliefs. Additionally, this hadith shows us how important knowledge is in Islam; not only do we need to know when to pray, but also what type of prayer should be offered at each specific time.
