Sahih al-Bukhari 3612 (Book 61, Hadith 119) #3451
Strength of Faith

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the strength of faith and how it can withstand any form of persecution.

Narrated Khabbab bin Al-Arat: We complained to Allah's Messenger (of the persecution inflicted on us by the infidels) while he was sitting in the shade of the Ka'ba, leaning over his Burd (ie covering sheet). We said to him, "Would you seek help for us? Would you pray to Allah for us?" He said, "Among the nations before you a (believing) man would be put in a ditch that was dug for him, and a saw would be put over his head and he would be cut into two pieces; yet that (torture) would not make him give up his religion. His body would be combed with iron combs that would remove his flesh from the bones and nerves, yet that would not make him abandon his religion. By Allah, this religion (ie Islam) will prevail till a traveler from Sana (in Yemen) to Hadhramaut will fear none but Allah, or a wolf as regards his sheep, but you (people) are hasty.

QUICK LESSONS:
Have patience during difficult times; trust God's plan; remain firm on your religious beliefs no matter what happens around you ; persevere despite all odds against you .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the strength of faith and how it can withstand any form of persecution. It was narrated by Khabbab bin Al Arat who complained to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ while he was sitting in the shade of Kaaba, leaning over his Burd. They asked him if he would seek help for them or pray to Allah for them. In response, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told them a story about people before them who were subjected to torture yet did not give up their religion. He said that even though they were put in a ditch that was dug for them and saws were put over their heads, they still did not abandon their religion. Even when their bodies were combed with iron combs that removed flesh from bones and nerves, they still held on firmly to their faith. He then concluded by saying that this religion will prevail until a traveler from Sana in Yemen will fear none but Allah or a wolf as regards his sheep; however people are hasty in giving up on things too soon.

This hadith teaches us many values such as patience, perseverance, resilience and courage which are essential qualities needed when facing difficulties in life especially when it comes to our religious beliefs which should be held onto no matter what happens around us. We should also have trust in God's plan because He knows best what is good for us even if we don't understand why certain things happen at certain times; we must remember that everything happens according to His will so we must remain patient during difficult times knowing that there is always something better waiting ahead if we just keep going forward despite all odds against us .
