Entering the Presence of the Prophet (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) would give permission to enter if he was not praying, and say Subhan Allah if he was.

'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: I used to go to the Prophet and ask permission to enter. If he was praying, he would say Subhan Allah, and if he was not praying, he would give me permission to enter.

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask for permission before entering someone's presence out of respect .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the respect and reverence that should be shown when entering the presence of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib, who said that whenever he wanted to enter into his presence, he would ask for permission first. If the Prophet ﷺ was in prayer, then he would say “Subhan Allah” which means “Glory be to God” as a sign of permission for him to enter. If however, he was not in prayer then he would give him direct permission to enter without saying anything else. This hadith teaches us that we should always show respect and reverence when entering any place where people are worshipping or engaging in religious activities such as mosques or madrasas etc., and also when entering into someone's presence out of respect for them regardless of their status or position in society.
