Musnad Ahmad 724 (Book 5, Hadith 157) #34383
Obedience to Allah is Paramount

SUMMARY: Obedience to Allah is the only way to be successful and should not involve any disobedience.

It was narrated from 'Ali that The Messenger of Allah sent out an army and appointed a man in charge of them. He lit a fire and said: Enter it. Some people wanted to enter it, but others said: This is what we wanted to flee from. That was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah and he said to those who had wanted to enter it: "If you had entered it you would have remained in it until the Day of Resurrection". He said some kind words to the others, then he said: 'There is no obedience in that which involves disobedience towards Allah; obedience is only with regard to that which is right and proper'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God's commands even if we do not understand why or how they will benefit us in the long run; trust Him completely without question or hesitation

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib, speaks of the importance of obedience to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad sent out an army and appointed a man in charge of them. He lit a fire and asked them to enter it, but some people wanted to enter it while others refused. When this was reported back to the Prophet Muhammad, he said that if they had entered it they would have remained in it until the Day of Resurrection. He then said that there is no obedience in that which involves disobedience towards Allah; obedience is only with regard to that which is right and proper. This hadith teaches us that we must always obey Allah's commands even if we do not understand why or how they will benefit us in the long run; our faith should be strong enough for us to trust Him completely without question or hesitation. We must also remember that disobeying Him will lead us astray from His path and bring about consequences for our actions on Judgment Day.
