Musnad Ahmad 608 (Book 5, Hadith 45) #34271
Keeping a House Clean and Free from Impurities

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of keeping a house clean and free from impurities, as well as the presence of angels.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Nujayy said: 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: I used to enter upon the Messenger of Allah twice, by night and by day. If I entered upon him and he was praying, he would clear his throat. I came to him one night and he said: 'Do you know what the angel did this night? I was praying and I heard some movement in the house. I went out and I saw Jibreel (عليه السلام). He said: All night I have been waiting for you. In your house there is a dog and I could not enter. We do not enter the house in which there is a dog or a person who is junub or a statue'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of keeping one's house clean and free from impurities. It was narrated by 'Abdullah bin Nujayy that Ali said he used to enter upon the Messenger of Allah twice, by night and by day. If he entered upon him while he was praying, he would clear his throat. One night, when Ali entered his house, the Messenger of Allah told him that an angel had been waiting for him all night but could not enter because there was a dog in his house or someone who was junub or a statue. This shows us how important it is to keep our houses clean so that angels can come in them without any hindrance. We should also be mindful not to have anything impure in our homes such as statues or people who are junub so that we can receive blessings from God's angels without any obstruction.
