The Consequence of Lying About the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against deliberately lying about him, and the consequence of doing so is to take one's place in Hell.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever tells a lie about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنْ النَّارِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against telling lies about the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It is important to remember that we should not lie or spread false information about anyone, but especially not about the beloved Messenger of Allah. Doing so will result in taking one's place in Hell. We must always strive to speak truthfully and kindly when talking about others, especially when it comes to discussing our beloved prophet. We should also remember that we are responsible for what we say and do; if we tell lies or spread false information, then there will be consequences for our actions.
