Sahih al-Bukhari 3553 (Book 61, Hadith 62) #3394
Receiving Blessings from the Prophet's Hand

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) performing a prayer in public and people taking his hand and passing it on their faces to receive blessings.

Narrated Abu Juhaifa: Once Allah's Messenger went to Al-Batha' at noon, performed the ablution and offered' a two rak'at Zuhr prayer and a two-rak'at 'Asr prayer while a spearheaded stick was planted before him and the passersby were passing in front of it. (After the prayer), the people got up and held the hands of the Prophet and passed them on their faces. I also took his hand and kept it on my face and noticed that it was colder than ice, and its smell was nicer than musk.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ went to Al-Batha' at noon and performed ablution before offering two rak'ats of Zuhr prayer and two rak'ats of 'Asr prayer. During this time, a spearheaded stick was planted in front of him while passersby were walking by. After he finished his prayers, people got up and held his hands to pass them on their faces as a way of receiving blessings from him. Abu Juhaifa also took part in this act and noticed that the Prophet's hand was colder than ice with a nicer smell than musk. This hadith teaches us that we should be respectful towards our elders as well as seek blessings from them through acts such as holding their hands or touching them with respect. It also shows us how much respect people have for the prophet ﷺ even after he passed away centuries ago; they still hold onto his teachings today by seeking blessings through physical contact with him even though he is no longer alive.
