Musnad Ahmad 234 (Book 2, Hadith 150) #33925
Generosity Over Miserliness

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) chose to give away wealth to people who asked for it, rather than be seen as a miser.

It was narrated that 'Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah shared out (some wealth) and I said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, others deserved to have it more than these people". He said: "They gave me the choice of having them ask importunately or regard me as a miser, and I am not a miser".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of generosity over miserliness. It was narrated by 'Umar bin al-Khattab that the Messenger of Allah shared out some wealth and he said that others deserved it more than those who received it. The Prophet Muhammad replied that he was given the choice between having them ask importunately or being regarded as a miser, and he chose not to be seen as a miser. This hadith teaches us that we should always choose generosity over being stingy with our resources, even if we think someone else deserves it more than those who are asking for help. We should also remember that when faced with difficult choices, we should always strive to do what is right and just in order to maintain our integrity and honor.
