Musnad Ahmad 158 (Book 2, Hadith 75) #33850
Revelation of the Quran in Seven Different Ways

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the revelation of the Quran in seven different ways and how Umar bin al Khattab heard Hisham bin Hakeem reciting it differently from what he was taught by the Prophet.

It was narrated from al Miswar bin Makhramah that 'Umar bin al Khattab said: I heard Hisham bin Hakeem bin Hizam reciting Sooratal-Furqan and he recited some words differently from how the Prophet of Allah had taught it to me. I wanted to argue with him, but I was praying. When I finished, I said: Who taught you this recitation? He said: The Messenger of Allah . I said: You are lying; by Allah, this is not how the Messenger of Allah taught it to you. I took him by the hand and brought him to the Messenger of Allah , and said: O Messenger of Allah , you taught me how to recite Soorat al Furqaan, and I heard this man reciting some words in a way that was not the way you taught them to me. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Recite it, O. Hisham". He recited it as he recited it before. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Thus it was revealed". Then he said: 'Recite it, O Umar". So I recited it and he said: "Thus it was revealed". Then the Messenger of Allah said: "The Qur'an has been revealed in seven different ways'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to us about how Allah revealed the Qur'an to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in seven different ways. Umar ibn Al Khattab heard someone reciting a verse differently than what he was taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, so he took him to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and asked him if this is how it should be recited. The Prophet ﷺ confirmed that this is indeed how it should be recited, as it was revealed to him in this way. This teaches us that there are multiple ways of understanding and interpreting verses of the Qur'an, which can lead to a deeper understanding of its teachings and messages for us today. We must also remember not to argue with others over their interpretations or beliefs, but rather take them respectfully and discuss our differences with kindness and patience.
