Sunan Ibn Majah 4249 (Book 37, Hadith 150) #33605
The Joy of Repentance

SUMMARY: Allah rejoices more over the repentance of His slave than a man who finds his lost mount.

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed that the Messenger of Allah said: "Allah rejoices more over the repentance of His slave, than a man who loses his mount in a barren land, and he searches for it until he gets tired and covers his face with his garment, and while he is like that, he heard the footsteps of his mount where he lost it, so he lifts the garment from his face and there is his mount".

QUICK LESSONS:
Turn back to Allah with sincerity and regret for our sins.
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the joy that Allah has when one of His slaves repents and turns back to Him. It is compared to a man who loses his mount in a barren land, and after searching for it until he gets tired, he covers his face with his garment in despair. Suddenly, he hears the footsteps of his mount where he lost it and lifts the garment from his face to find it there. In this way, Allah's joy at seeing His slave repent is greater than this man's joy at finding his lost mount. This hadith teaches us that no matter how far we have strayed from Allah, He will always be ready to accept our repentance if we turn back to Him with sincerity and regret for our sins.
