Sunan Ibn Majah 4223 (Book 37, Hadith 124) #33579
Knowing Good and Bad Through Neighbors

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that one can know if they have done something good or bad by listening to what their neighbors say about them.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: "A man said to the Messenger of Allah : 'How can I know when I have done well and when I have done something bad?’ The Prophet said: 'If you hear your neighbors saying that you have done well, then you have done well, and if you hear them saying that you have done something bad, then you have done something bad.’"

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and how it affects those around us. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught that one can know if they have done something good or bad by listening to what their neighbors say about them. This means that we should strive to do good deeds, as it will be noticed by those around us, and will bring benefit not only to ourselves but also the people in our community. We should also take care not to do anything wrong, as this too will be noticed and may cause harm both for ourselves and others. In this way, we can use the opinions of our neighbors as a guide for how we conduct ourselves in life.
